I am Tad

Hi. The name’s Tad – Tad Bailey. I was just a regular teenager before I found The Gate. Life was hard even then, what with all the bullying and Mum and Dad fighting all the time. I thought it couldn’t get any worse. Then Shiladu happened. Shiladu’s a place you go to in your sleep – well as far as The Gate, that is. You probably don’t remember. They see to that. Anyway, unless you’ve got a ticket, they won’t let you in.

I found one – a ticket, I mean. It looks like a stone – shiny on one side, gritty on the other. The next thing I knew, I was asleep. At least, I thought I was asleep. There was this huge gate and a strange looking character with a big black book. My name was in it. He said, I could get the life I wanted. Talked about The Seven Keys. I thought I was dreaming. I wish I had been.
